Comerica Acquires Master Franchise of Ucube Videotex Network

Tulsa, OK -- December12, 1984 -- Exomesa Financial Services, Inc. today said that it had reached an agreement with Comerica Incorporated, a registered bank holding company based in Detroit, Michigan.  The agreement, subject to final regulatory and Board of Director approval, calls for the purchase by Comerica, of the Worldwide Franchise Rights to provide data and transaction processing for a new telecommunications network known as UCUBE.  The network, developed by Exomesa, facilitates the direct linking of businesses to consumers through PCs and other types of terminals.  Utilizing a new approach to distribution of debit cards, point-of-sale terminals, automated teller machines (ATMs) and direct terminal link ups, services such as electronic banking, electronic purchasing, electronic mail, automatic bill payment, etc., become available, nationally.  Testing of the system is due to begin in early 1985 and the service should be available by the third quarter of 1985.

C. Gus Cristo, Exomesa’s President and CEO, said  that the system is designed to run  on Tandem Non-Stop computers and that the banking-related services, as proposed, have been developed by Applied Communications, Inc (ACI), an Omaha Nebraska software firm that specializes in banking software.  Cristo added that although the system was Tandem based, it would be interactive with most other computer environments.

At the completion of testing, regional sub-franchises will be made available to other regional banking organizations through Comerica.  The agreement also provides for the purchase, by Comerica, of a minority interest in Exomesa.
