Foster Wheeler To Supply Heat-Recovery Units For Major Cogeneration Project in Thailand

CLINTON, NJ - June 24, 1997 - Foster Wheeler has received a Notice to Proceed from Black & Veatch (UK) to supply four heat-recovery units (HRUs) for a major cogeneration project in Thailand, it was announced here today.

The order, valued at approximately $11 million, will be completed by Foster Wheeler Energia Oy, Finland-based operating unit of Foster Wheeler Energy International, Inc. The Notice to Proceed is a full release to begin engineering and material procurement for the fast-track project. The four heat-recovery units will be manufactured in Finland, with the first two scheduled for shipment to Thailand in December 1997 and the second two in March of 1998.

The four HRUs will be installed on the exhaust of combustion turbines at the Map Ta Phut Cogeneration Plant Project in Rayong Province, which will be fueled by natural gas. The cogeneration project is jointly owned by MTP Cogeneration Co. Ltd. and Thai Cogeneration Co. Ltd.

In operation, the Foster Wheeler HRUs will use the waste heat from the combustion turbine exhaust gas to provide feedwater heating and main steam reheating for the adjacent steam turbine units, which receive their main steam supply from non-reheat circulating fluidized-bed boilers, which are also being supplied by Foster Wheeler Energy International. The combustion turbines with waste-heat recovery in combination with the more conventional steam turbine units result in a relatively high thermal efficiency. Process steam from the steam turbine units and electricity from the combustion turbines and the steam turbines are used by customers in the nearby industrial park.

Foster Wheeler Energy International, Inc. designs and fabricates steam-generating equipment for electric utilities, industrial users and public authorities globally. The company is the world's leading supplier of circulating fluidized-bed boilers.
