Atlas Tower Sold After Dispute With Local Banker

Tulsa, OK- May 31, 1983 -  The principals of InAmerica Consulting have agreed to sell Atlas Tower Corporation, a Vinita, OK- based manufacturer of broadcast and communications towers. The transaction followed a number of questionable actions on the part of the buyers.  One of the pressures required the CEO of Atlas, C. Gus Cristo, to hire armed guards with canine support to protect his family from threats of contract steelworkers.  Another pressure was the termination of the company’s credit line apparently in retaliation for Atlas Tower’s intention to move its business to Miami Industrial park.

The sale which could be characterized as a hostile takeover came from Richard R. Bell, V.P. of Operations and George J. Bubrick, a former consulting associate of Cristo that joined with Bell and the local Bank, First National Bank and Trust of Vinita, to prevent the company’s move. Terms of the sale were undisclosed.

Atlas Tower was an operating unit of InAmerica Consulting, which is an Oklahoma-based turnaround consultancy.
